Last Friday I did my last pre-SOS Survey of the year. As I’ve explained in past posts SOS’s Fall Surveys start this month. My first survey for the Fall will be this Friday between the 4th of July and the weekend. I expect to count more people than shorebirds. The shorebirds are starting to return. I found 3 Western Sandpipers this last survey.
There were 4 Whimbrels that seemed to over Summer on our coast this year. I believe that the 2 Killdeer chicks have fledged and are now chasing their parents.
Total bird species seen for this first half of my year is 220 with 1489 car miles saved.
